Our History

Life for our church began in 1915 when the New Haven Church of the Brethren planted Shepherd Church of the Brethren on the very corner we still call home. Through God’s faithfulness to us, our church has endured and adapted to a changing world, continuing to show God’s love in our community.

The first vacation bible school in Isabella County was hosted by our church, a tradition which continues to this day with a vibrant, exciting, fast paced VBS. In 1997 we changed the name of our church to New Life Christian Fellowship to reflect the gift God gives to His children when we become followers. Being only four miles from a college campus inspired the members to start a campus ministry called Standing in the Gap. Gap reaches college students on the campus’ of Central Michigan University, Saginaw Valley State University, and exciting plans for a new campus ministry in 2011. Having started as a church plant ourselves we now have planted a church of our own, the Church in Drive located in Saginaw. The Church in Drive is reaching out to a community that really needs healing, something we know Jesus can bring to Saginaw.

As our congregation began to grow and young families began to get involved, we realized the need for a new building to better serve our members and the community. In March 2009 our new building was opened. With a larger worship center, classrooms to accommodate our ever expanding youth ministry, and new resource center we know this building will be a blessing to our church and our community for years to come.

Come be a part of New Life as God continues to write our history for us.
